The Subaru Impreza is a fun, efficient car that's available as both a sedan and a hatchback. While it's a reliable compact car, can you count on it to keep you safe? Paul Miller Subaru finds out. To give drivers near Parsippany, Wayne, and Morristown peace of mind, we decided to explore the Subaru Impreza safety ratings.
Subaru Impreza Safety Features
Inside the Subaru Impreza, you'll be protected by seven airbags. The Subaru advanced front airbag system comes standard and includes a pair of front airbags and seat-mounted front side-impact airbags. There's also a driver's knee airbag. Plus, side-curtain airbags cover both rows of seats and include a rollover sensor.
Everyone will be strapped in tightly, too. The front seats include seatbelt pretensioners, while the second row comes with Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH).
This sporty ride also offers excellent visibility. LED fog lights are available as well as LED Steering Responsive Headlights with High Beam Assist. They'll help you see around curves by pivoting as you turn the wheel. The Impreza is prepared for winter weather, too, with heated side mirrors and a windshield wiper de-icer.
Driver-Assist Technology
The Subaru Impreza also offers lots of technology that can help prevent accidents. For example, a Rear-Vision Camera comes standard. It gives you a clear view of what's behind your car when you're backing up.

EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology is also available. This system bundles together some smart safety features that'll give you more awareness during your drive. Some of the features include:
- Pre-Collision Braking
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Departure and Sway Warning with Lane Keep Assist
- Pre-Collision Throttle Management
You can also add Blind-Spot Detection to help you see when it's safe to change lanes. For more coverage when you're backing up, both a Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Reverse Automatic Braking are also available.
There's also technology looking out for you after an accident. In the event of a collision, Subaru STARLINK® Safety and Security sends out an Advanced Automatic Collision Notification. You can also use it to get Enhanced Roadside Assistance or call for SOS Emergency Assistance.
Drivetrain & Design
Whether you're interested in the Impreza sedan or hatchback, you'll be in for a safe and stable ride. Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive comes standard and includes both a Traction Control System and Vehicle Dynamics Control.
It's also prepared for tight turns and bumpy roads. Active Torque Vectoring uses braking on the inside wheels to help your car handle even the sharpest angles. If you're going to be heading down a rocky trail or encounter some potholes, the 5.1-inch ground clearance will help you get up and over whatever lies in your path.
On top of being able to grip the road, the Impreza can stop on a dime. It features a 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Brake Assist. Your wheels will also be in tip-top shape thanks to a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
