From taking the kids to school to running errands to going on camping trips, it helps to have a crossover or SUV that's ready for anything. The Subaru Outback and Honda CR-V both fit that description, but which one is right for you?

To help drivers throughout the areas of Parsippany, Wayne, and Morristown, NJ, decide, the Paul Miller Subaru team takes a look at what they have to offer in this 2021 Subaru Outback vs. Honda CR-V comparison.

Subaru Outback vs Honda CR-V: Performance & Capability

The 2021 Subaru Outback offers two efficient and powerful engines to choose from. The 2.5L SUBARU BOXER® 4-cylinder base engine delivers good fuel economy and a towing capacity of 2,700 pounds when properly equipped. If you want to haul a heavier trailer, you could go with the turbocharged 2.4L 4-cylinder engine instead. It uses its 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque to tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.

The Honda CR-V can't carry as much-or offer as many options. It's only available with a small 1.5L engine that gets up to just 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. With that kind of performance, you'll only be able to tow up to 1,500 pounds.

Subaru Outback vs Honda CR-V: Safety Features

Whether you're thinking of it as a family-friendly crossover or an off-roading vehicle, the Subaru Outback is prepared to keep you safe. It comes with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, so you'll be in control in any conditions.

While the drivetrain gives you traction and stability, EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology will help prevent accidents. It comes standard on every trim level and gives you more awareness with the following features:

  • Pre-Collision Braking
  • Pre-Collision Throttle Management
  • Lane Departure and Sway Warning
  • Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering

Additional safety features-like Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert-are also available. Plus, the optional DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System can remind you to keep your eyes on the road.

The Honda CR-V also comes with a series of driver-assist technology, but it doesn't include standard all-wheel drive, or offer anything to help you stay focused.

Subaru Outback vs Honda CR-V: Infotainment System

The Subaru Outback also includes technology that'll make your drive easier and more fun. The SUBARU STARLINK® Multimedia system comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, but an 11.6-inch screen is also available. Both options make your dashboard feel like a command center. You can stay in touch and enjoy lots of music with the following standard features:

  • Bluetooth® audio streaming and hands-free phone connectivity
  • Apple CarPlay®
  • Android Autoâ„¢
  • SiriusXM®
  • HD Radio®

The Honda CR-V also comes with Bluetooth®, but features like Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and SiriusXM® aren't available on the base trim. It also comes with a small 5-inch LCD monitor instead of a touchscreen.
