With a 1,500-pound towing capacity, the Subaru Crosstrek is a compact SUV that's prepared to haul some extra gear wherever you go. It's an ideal option for everything from a fishing boat to a utility trailer to a couple dirt bikes or an ATV.

To deliver that kind of towing capacity, the 2021 Crosstrek offers a series of SUBARU BOXER® engines. The base powertrain is a 2.0L 4-cylinder that gets up to 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. The other option is a 2.5L 4-cylinder that offers up to 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque.

If you're interested in a nice balance between capability and efficiency, you'll be interested in the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid. It takes the base engine and pairs it with a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor. The result is an EPA-estimated 90 MPGe and a towing capacity of 1,000 pounds.*

Trailering Features & Technology

The 2021 Crosstrek also makes it easy to get your trailer around safely. It starts by helping you line your tow hitch up using the Rear-Vision Camera. It's standard on every trim and lets you use your dashboard monitor to get a better look at what's behind you when you're backing up.

It's just one of the safety features that'll come in handy while you're towing. Once you're on the road, Lane Departure and Sway Warning with Lane Keep Assist will keep everything in line with your SUV. You can also add Blind-Spot Detection and a Rear Cross-Traffic Alert that'll help you change lanes and back up when you've got your trailer attached.

In addition to these features, the Crosstrek comes with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Vehicle Dynamics Control, so you can haul your cargo through any driving conditions. You'll even have Hill Descent Control there to help you come back down steep roads at a safe speed.

Cargo Capabilities

The Subaru Crosstrek is also prepared to carry all your boxes, bags, and bicycles. It's built with a wide tailgate and features roof rails, so you can load up or tie things like a kayak to the roof. Inside, you'll have 20.8 cubic feet of trunk space. While that's plenty for groceries and luggage, 60/40 split folding rear seats are included in case you have to load more. With the 2nd-row seats folded, you'll have up to 55.3 cubic feet of cargo room.
