Subaru Ascent Towing Capacity

The Subaru Ascent is a versatile SUV. It comes with lots of cargo room and safety features. Can it help you bring a trailer or boat on your next family vacation, though? Paul Miller Subaru finds out for families in Parsippany, Wayne, and Morristown with this look at the Subaru Ascent towing capacity.

Subaru Ascent Specs

The Subaru Ascent runs on a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® engine. This gets up to 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. In the base trim, this powertrain can tow up to 2,000 pounds. However, other trim levels can be configured to tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Each trim level features a Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission. It helps you customize your drive with manual mode and paddle shifters, plus you'll be in for a capable drive with Adaptive Control.

For additional stability while you're towing, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive comes standard. The drivetrain includes both a Traction Control System (TCS) and X-MODE® to help you grip the road, trail, or any terrain you're driving on.

Subaru Ascent: Towing Features

From lining up with your trailer to getting it safely to your destination, the Subaru Ascent offers all sorts of features that will help make towing easier. For example, when you put your SUV in reverse, the dashboard monitor instantly changes its display. It goes from the infotainment system to a live picture of what's behind your vehicle. The high-resolution Rear-Vision Camera even comes with adaptive guidelines, so you can line up with your cargo and perfectly back into place.

If you're traveling over tough terrain, you can scope out the road or trail ahead with an available 180-Degree Front View Monitor. You'll also know when the coast is clear to change lanes or back up. Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert monitors what's around your SUV even when your trailer is attached.

During your drive, Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) will keep your boat, camper, or trailer under control and in line with your SUV. If you're heading to the mountains, Hill Descent Control (HDC) can help you bring your trailer back down at a safe, constant speed.

Cargo Capabilities of the Subaru Ascent

The Ascent is also prepared to carry lots of cargo that doesn't require a trailer. There's 17.8 cubic feet of space in the trunk. If you've got your hands full, the available Power Rear Gate can open for you with just the push of a button.

To help you load more, both the second and third rows come with 60/40-split flat-folding seats. Fold the back seats down and you'll have up to 47.5 cubic feet of space. With the middle row down too, you'll have up to 86.5 cubic feet of cargo room.

Raised roof rails are also standard, so you can tie some lumber to the top or keep the interior clean and strap your kayaks or Christmas tree to the roof.
