The Subaru Forester is a capable SUV that's built to keep you safe and in control. So, what kind of safety features does it offer? Paul Miller Subaru finds out. We put this 2020 Subaru Forester safety review together to show drivers in Parsippany, Wayne, and Morristown, NJ why you can count on it to keep you safe.

Subaru Forester Safety Features

The Subaru Forester features seven airbags and lots of safety features. The interior is protected by a pair of front airbags, seat-mounted front side-impact airbags, a driver's knee airbag, and side-curtain airbags that cover both rows of seats.

Whiplash-reducing front seats also come standard, as well as front seatbelt pretensioners. To make sure smaller passengers are strapped in properly, Lower Anchors and Tether for Children (LATCH) are standard in the back seats.

The Forester is ready for all kinds of conditions and helps you see clearly during storms with LED fog lights. If you're driving on winding roads at night, LED Steering Responsive Headlights can help you see what's around the next turn. These headlights actually pivot as you turn the wheel.

Traction & Stability

Getting to experience all four seasons is one of the great things about living in North Jersey. Whether the forecast calls for April showers or winter weather, the Subaru Forester can keep you in control with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

The drivetrain also includes a Traction Control System that prevents your wheels from slipping. Meanwhile, Vehicle Dynamics Control analyzes your drive and uses corrective braking to reduce your chances of skidding on slick, icy roads. To make your SUV even more adaptable, dual-function X-MODE® offers selectable driving modes like Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud.

Driver Assist Technology

While the Subaru Forester can keep you safe and in control, it's also loaded with technology that can help prevent accidents. For example, EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology bundles together a series of features that'll give you more awareness during your drive. Some of the standard features include:

  • Pre-Collision Braking - Applies the brakes to avoid an accident and can even bring your Forester to a full stop
  • Pre-Collision Throttle Management - Slows your SUV down and gives you time to react by reducing the engine's power
  • Lane Departure and Sway Warning - Prevents drifting out of your lane by sending a warning if you pass over lane lines without signaling
  • Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering - Uses a camera to keep you in the middle of your lane and a safe distance from the car in front of you

You'll also have more visibility when you're backing up. The standard Rear-Vision Camera makes parking lots safer by using your dashboard monitor to give you a closer look at what's behind your SUV. If you get too close to the curb or another vehicle, Reverse Automatic Braking will kick in.

There's also extra visibility available in front and along the sides of your SUV. High Beam Assist automatically switches your high beams off then on again when another vehicle passes by. Meanwhile, Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert lets you know when the coast is clear to change lanes or back up.

While all these features are watching what's around your SUV, the DriverFocusâ„¢ Distraction Mitigation System is paying attention to how you're driving. It analyzes your driving patterns and looks for signs of drowsy or distracted driving. If it seems like you're tired or not paying attention, it reminds you to keep your eyes on the road.
